A GREAT weekend of racing! One I personally
needed as the adversity and struggles of the last few rounds
were starting to wear on me. So on to the "thank you"
section of the report as I'm so very grateful for the support
I have.
Mike Sullivan "the king"
- Mike, thank you for extending such a huge amount of trust
by loaning your ZX10R to us for the weekend. Per your request
I have to mention that the bike is for sale. It's extremely
fast and discounted well below market value - contact Mike
here
for details :o) (I think this is the start
of my used race bike emporium).
Tom and Chris @ Pirelli
- Thanks for all you guys do. I wouldn't be here without your
support!
Dale and Dan Zlock - Both Dan &
Dale laboured on the 600 and the superbike over the past few
weeks. Huge effort and huge thanks guys.
Don "Supercuts" Beck - Don,
you're the man. I appreciate all your persistence and patience
with me, along with the sacrifices you make to work in this
race program. Thank you!
Jeff and Francie LaMarche (fast food
racing) - What can I say. Thank you hardly seems enough for
all that you guys do for us, but thank you!
Barry Wressell- Thanks for your tremendous
efforts with both the bikes. I appreciate your friendship
and support.
Dave Hodges - First, nice car bud (he
bought a Ferrari) and second, thanks for all the support in
getting our bikes to handle the way they do.
Notes on Practice:
With Don getting stuck in Seattle, I found myself all alone
on Saturday morning. Funny how you start to appreciate the
help you have just that much more when you don't have it.
:o) Thankfully Jeff and Francie chipped in as did Chris from
Pirelli so things managed to work themselves out for practice.
And with our superbike out of action for this round, Mike
Sullivan graciously offered to loan us his Sullivan Race School
ZX10R. Thanks Mike! I hope we did it justice.
Race one - 600 Supersport
On the second start of the race (yes there was a red flag)
I did alright off the line and slotted into second behind
Chris Ancien. From here it became a game of chess at 165 mph.
Chris and I were running nearly identical lap times and it
was clear to me after the second lap that this race was going
to go to the wire. Unfortunately I didn't get the job done
and almost lost second to Brian Pinkstaff just edging him
at the line by .003 of a second. Can you say barn burner?
Can you see the smile on my face? I live for races like this!
Race two - Formula Ultra (Superbike)
My objective for the weekend was two fold: stay as close to
Alan Schmidt as I possibly could, and not to end up having
to buy Mike Sullivan's bike (read not crash it). Alan basically
owns Portland - he's so good around this track it's astonishing.
I set off for the first few laps just working to keep him
in sight. I kept things around the 1:08.4 range safely, but
Al was clicking away high 1:07's and with that he left me
hoping for second. Luckily, we got it.
Race three - 600 Superbike
I won't lie about this, I wanted to win
BADLY. The previous
600 race had left me slightly frustrated that I didn't get
the job done. This race was basically a carbon copy of the
first except lapped traffic and the role it played in the
race. In the end I didn't do as good a job as Chris and had
to settle for second, however in a effort to claw back some
ground and get a win, I managed to rip off some of my best
laps on a 600 around Portland.
Stay tuned - next race in a couple of weeks.
