Oh yeah! I needed this weekend
more than words alone can describe. A win eluded us for several
races and I'm feeling fantastic as our hard work and never-give-up
mind-set finally paid off.
Thank you's
Don Beck - Don, the more I extend trust to you the
better we do. Thanks for persisting with me and calling me
out on my B.S.
Tom Young & Pirelli
Tires. - Tom, thanks for your patience in us getting
to the top step again. The tires are phenomenal and we truly
appreciate the support.
Mike Sullivan - You've been more than generous with
the use of your ZX10 - Thanks doesn't seem enough.
Francie LaMarche - Francie, you're such an amazing
person. I can't tell you how grateful we are to have you on
the team.
Brian Moe, Kevin Pinkstaff, Brent Prindle and the whole
"clan" - thanks for the support, laughs and
good times.
Dan Zlock - thanks for all you do even as you go through
a tough time.
Notes on practice.
I came into this weekend more confident than ever. After our
improvement at the last WMRRA round I couldn't wait to throw
my leg over the 600 and get to work. Practice went quite well
as we worked from our standard setting to dial the bike into
the conditions.
Race 1 - 600 Supersport
I did alright off the line and slotted into second place going
into turn one. It looked like it was going to be another good
battle between Chris Ancien and I for the win. Chris was riding
well and although I was able to make ground in certain sections
of the track, I wasn't able to mount a serious enough challenge
for the win. I felt we had the package to win this race, but
I didn't get it done.
Race 2 - 600 Superbike
After the first race on Saturday Don looked at me and candidly
asked if I was finally tired of this second place bullshit?
He has a way with words. A few choice words later and we had
a plan to get us to the front of the field and the work began.
I was able to slot into second again off the start but I had
a different mindset for this race. I'll leave it at the word
determined and let you imagine the rest. The result was probably
one of the best races of my career, passing on every lap,
two to three times, if not more. Timing lapped riders to the
tenth of a second and relentlessly pushing as hard as possible
every second of every lap. In the end I was just able to hold
off Chris Ancien for the win!
Race 3 - Formula Ultra
Again I was on Mike Sullivan's borrowed ZX10R. The bike's
an absolute missile and riding it has been an exciting challenge
for sure. I did well off the start and managed to nip in behind
Alan Schmidt. From here I wanted to latch onto Al and see
what happened. At first the pace was decent enough where I
didn't feel as though we were really on the edge. Then by
the third lap Al was pushing harder and in my attempt to keep
on him I almost crashed in turn three. VERY close! That reality
check made me slow down a little as I didn't want to owe Mike
more than I already do. :o) I notched it down a few tenths
and took a relatively conservative second. Congrats go out
to Tony Porter for getting a well deserved third in this race!
Thanks again to everyone involved in this
race program and all my friends and family for their support.
Stay tuned.
